In the Trenches – Chicago Spring Outerwear
by NoelleIt’s springtime in Chicago, and while that means longer days, it doesn’t mean you can step outside without a coat. Spring is the perfect time for a classic trench, or the more casual anorak.
I love an anorak for Chicago because one minute it can feel like spring, and the next, you could see small snowflakes in the sky – this is where the hood and waterproof fabric come in handy!
Here are some of my favorites:
Metallic anorak
This anorak still looks young and fresh with jeans. Much better than black, and yet protected from the weather in style!
Sporty anorak
A coat is the first thing people see, so something in a color is always flattering! This shorter style complements the casual nature of the anorak – the perfect weekend, transition coat.
Trench coats

Surviving Sub-Zero in Chicago
by KendahlState Street. Michael Jordan. Deep-dish pizza. Chicago may be known for many things, but its annual presentation of teeth-clenching temperatures and face-slapping winds remains most infamous. And, as any self-respecting Chicagoan will tell you, you haven’t made it in this city until you’ve endured the winter months. Where to Escape: There’s no better place brave the frozen tundra that often is Chicago than with some brunch from the Little Branch Café (1251 S Prairie Ave). Tucked away in Chicago’s South Loop neighborhood, this modern, but cozy café offers an extensive variety of breakfast, lunch, dinner and even drink options that go well beyond the overpriced skim latte and right into a full-bar good enough for any Irishman’s morning.

Fashion is on the menu in Chicago

Hats off to the perfect Sunday morning
The word brunch may conjure images of greasy eggs, bloody Mary’s, tangled hair and hangovers, but in Chicago it’s a big deal. Despite hangovers, many fashionistas use this big Sunday time slot as an extension to showcase their fashion. And what goes best after a lingering calorie-ridden brunch? Walking it off by shopping of course! And the two best neighborhoods for brunch also happen to be the best for shopping.
Gold Coast – Chicago’s uppity neighborhood for shopping (think Prada, Gucci, Harry Winston, Hermes, Barney’s and much more) is the same for fashion. Here women don their highest name fashion wear most likely purchased at one of the boutiques nearby. Fred’s of Barney’s is a fave celeb-spotting place for brunch (and killer deal for the $25 three course brunch with mimosa) and for fashion, as is Lux Bar and Bistrot Zinc. To… [read more]
Over the Contour in Chicago
by ChinHot diggity damn! I’ve had my sights set on the smoky eye I’ve been seeing here in Chicago, so that’s exactly what I said when I learned the makeup Gods at CoverGirl created the new Smoky ShadowBlast. For me, this product was worth the try, but I wrote up the pros and cons of the product (below my pic) and now it’s time for you to be the judge!
Way awesome!
- Packaging: Two matched color options come in a clear tube with one round end and one angular end. It makes it easier to apply on the eyelid, which also means you don’t have to spend extra money on those expensive brushes.
- Colors: If you’re feeling feisty try bronze fire, or if you’re in a royal mood purple plum is right up your alley. CoverGirl gives you variety with six colors to
