The Alps are Alive with the Sound of Dirndls
by NokaMy favorite time of year has come. Oktoberfest buzz is ringing in every shop and on every corner. One of my favorite parts about Munich is its ability to converge the modern with the traditional. In no other area is this more apparent (and relevant to me) than Dirndl fashion.
Dirndls are taken quite seriously in Munich, especially during the Oktoberfest as it is the place to see and be seen. This year, we’re seeing a few new trends, however I think that the intended effect can be summed up in one word: Regal. Silks are big and in eye popping colors! Turquoise, sky blue and magenta—they’re attention-grabbing and beautiful.
Match a beautifully colored silk apron that compliments without over powering your dirndl. Of course, cotton dirndls are always in fashion, with this year leaning towards the classic and strong red, soft green and light blue.… [read more]
Pink Nudes
by NokaA few weeks ago, it was all about nudes and blacks. However, there’s a very clever twist to this trend: Pink Nudes. Pink nude is the new “it” color. It’s minimal, it’s fresh and it’s modern.
If you’d like to try this out step by step, you can test out a pink nude nailpolish with a bit of shimmer like this 6 euro bottle of “Blissful” from Perfect Formula.
Whether your pink nude is a complimentary splash or the focal point, it’s interesting to create an outfit where this unassuming color is the bold statement piece like this Flower Flash Bib-Necklace from J.Crew. I am loving this trend!
Don’t be easily mistaken that this color is fragile in character. By matching a pink nude with gladiator sandals, you can easily give this color some strength in your outfit. From dresses to hair clips, pink nudes have turned up… [read more]
The New Black & White
by NokaIt’s official. Nude and Black is the new Black and White. I, along with many of my fellow Münchenerins, watch the store windows along the fashionable avenues of Munich to get a feel for what’s in.

Spice up that LBD with nude heels, or add a black waist belt to a nude cardigan. These mesh peep-toes from Christian Louboutin are a leg-lengthening way to to wear a nude accessory:

While black and nude aren’t exactly a brand new combination (I vaguely remember seeing it circa 2002) both Zara and D&G are in agreement that Nude and Black are the hot hot-combination. Pair your nudes with blacks, but be sure that one is the dominant color and use the other in complimentary splashes.… [read more]
Accessorizing the Rain
by NokaHaving checked Munich’s 10 day forecast, it looks like we Müncheners are facing various intensities of rain from drizzling to pouring. Keeping in vogue with a stylish classic, Münchenerins are hitting the streets in their chic trench coats and rainwear accessories. Camel colored browns, navy blues and salmon pinks are dotting the streets, complete with color coordinated umbrellas.
|
Push a classically colored trench into spring with brighter accessories such as a colorful scarf, tote or patterned umbrella.
Add balance to a brightly colored trench with muted accessories such as honey browns and nudes.
|
Play around with colors and textures, because rainy days don’t mean that MĂĽnchenerins let down their style guard.
