The Alps are Alive with the Sound of Dirndls
by NokaMy favorite time of year has come. Oktoberfest buzz is ringing in every shop and on every corner. One of my favorite parts about Munich is its ability to converge the modern with the traditional. In no other area is this more apparent (and relevant to me) than Dirndl fashion.
Dirndls are taken quite seriously in Munich, especially during the Oktoberfest as it is the place to see and be seen. This year, we’re seeing a few new trends, however I think that the intended effect can be summed up in one word: Regal. Silks are big and in eye popping colors! Turquoise, sky blue and magenta—they’re attention-grabbing and beautiful.
Match a beautifully colored silk apron that compliments without over powering your dirndl. Of course, cotton dirndls are always in fashion, with this year leaning towards the classic and strong red, soft green and light blue.… [read more]

Brighton Bliss
by KateAugust is nearing to a close, summer is almost over and autumn is literally just around the corner waiting to pay us a visit. Last week I had a little holiday getaway to one of my favorite places down south…none other than the city of Brighton!
Just under an hour away from the UK’s bustling capital, Brighton has quite romantically been dubbed “London by the sea”. This little city is thriving with vibrant culture, scenic parks, cosy pubs, boasts over 350 quirky independent retailers and an ace pebbly beach that stretches for miles…everything and anything you could possibly need on your doorstep!
With so many attractions in Brighton, donning some casual layering was the sensible ideal for me. The perfect compromise of style and comfort: a pair of vintage loafers, jumpsuit, bright silk scarf and cropped silk jacket ensured to invite any sunny spells and warn off the… [read more]
Mad About Glamour
by ToscaWhether Mad Men excites you or puts you to sleep, you have to admit the show has made an impact on how America is thinking about style. Suddenly, office casual is starting to look so…old-fashioned, as grunge takes a backseat to glam. Cara, our Mad Men giveaway winner and owner of the style blog, Here’s Looking at Shoes, Kid, shows her Mad Men-inspired style:

Mad about Cara
Costume design queen Janie Bryant (besides all those actors with great genes) is the reason Mad Men just looks so darn good. Whether you’re a vintage vixen or a modern-day marketing maven, watching the stylish drama (likely with drink in hand) starts to give a girl a new-found preference for pencil skirts over pants.
Although Ms. Bryant’s much-anticipated clothing and nailcolor lines are not yet available, you can create your look with both modern and vintage finds. My look… [read more]
Louboutin Love
by ToscaThere are special moments in every girl’s life: getting married to the love of your life, snagging a great job, and buying your first pair of red-soled shoes. Of course, Christian Louboutins are the stuff of legend: they’re French, they’re fashionable, and they’re fabulous!
So on my first trip to Paris a couple of months ago, I really only had a couple of must-do items on my list: meet the Anyweargirl Paris bloggers in person, see the Eiffel tower, and go to the Christian Louboutin for some stunning footwear.
Even the storefront windows don’t disappoint. The leopard display visible from the main street was so lovely I was honestly afraid to walk in the store! So I walked around to the side alley and saw these magical, metallic mesh boots:
The saleswoman who greeted me instantly made me feel special and at ease at the… [read more]
Ooh La La Boutique!
by ToscaJust like San Francisco’s Jackson Square, the neighborhood it calls home, the beautiful La Boutique feels like a treasure you either want to share with everyone – or keep entirely to yourself. The two-level, open-plan space showcases European ready-to-wear designers, hard to find accessories, vintage eclectic objects, and even a gallery and showroom. The concept of La Boutique is simple: to fill a beautiful space with fashion and art that you couldn’t find anywhere in San Francisco until now.
Switzerland-born shop owner Carole Harari has cultivated a lust-worthy collection of brands, featuring emerging designers like Aleksandra Wiesenewska and Collection 66, paired with edgy, European cult brands like MM6 by Maison Martin Margiela, Vanessa Bruno athĂ© and Zadig & Voltaire (check out our post on this popular French brand). You’ll also find accessories from Avril Gau; take a sneak peek at this line from a page in the… [read more]
Mix-n-Match with Parisian Vintage Accessories
by TheadoraCalling all Anywear-Girlfriends! I’ve always been a big fan of the wardrobe mix-n-match. For the love of juxtaposition and money, who isn’t? This year, when the shops in Paris were bombarded with both the equestrian and nautical looks, it made perfect sense to marry the pair quickly, then gild the lily with a twist of my own. So let’s saunter on to my favorite vintage accessory hunting grounds at the Porte de Vanves Flea Market.
Giddy up!
If you only have time for one flea market jaunt during your trip to Paris, I suggest hotfooting it to the Porte de Vanves either on Saturday or Sunday morning. The flea market opens at 7 AM, and the dealers start packing up to leave around noon. So get your beauty rest, and arrive early! Carry cash and a sturdy bag for your finds. By the way, just beyond… [read more]
Roman Holiday
by ToscaI just returned from a spring trip to the Eternal City, where I soaked up the local style (and plenty of gelato, too). If you’re planning a trip to Rome or just want to add a little Italian flair to your look, read on!
The one thing I saw on almost every fashionable woman (even on warm days), was a classic bomber jacket, like this one:
The biggest style surprise for me was how many women wore flat shoes, often metallic flats, but after a couple of days on the cobblestones, this started to make perfect sense. Lacy socks or patterned tights were a sassy, and unexpected combo for fun footwear.
On the other end of the spectrum, there were these fantastic Fendi platforms in satin:
I was pretty sure that I’d never see those on any of the locals, but the very next… [read more]
This is Zadig!
by YaniqueZadig & Voltaire is a Parisian brand known for its ultimate cool casual styles and luxury pieces: cashmere sweaters, silk blended graphic t-shirts, organic cotton dresses and jeans that are made to live in.

Paris storefront
Creator Thierry Gillier grew up around the luxury retail industry as his father was one of the cofounders of Lacoste. He says that he created Zadig and Voltaire with the hopes of bringing “affordable luxury” to the masses. By the looks of things we’ll say Mission Accomplished!

From the iconic campaign
Zadig and Voltaire has grown from a one-boutique brand to encompass many locations in and around Paris and now they are set to conquer America and have quickly found a following of celebrities such as Alexis Bledil and Myley Cyrus.

‘Hood Hop ‘n Shop ~ Chinatown
by MelodyNew York City: the ultimate melting pot, crossroads of cultures, jigsaw of geography and generations. Within a three-block radius, one can devour exotic Cantonese cuisine, tantalize taste buds with freshly creamed cannolis, and spend their salary on sky-high stilettos in SoHo. With so many delights right outside each subway stop, it is my mission to explore each neighborhood individually, and share with anyweargirls the haute and hot highlights.
2nd stop on the hop: Chinatown

Iconic red lanterns in Chinatown
After finishing my tour of the second hop stop, all I can exhale is a grateful “Xie Xie” (mandarin for “thank you”), exiting the area in a complete state of bliss after my hourlong shoulder and foot massage courtesy of reflexologist Charlie. Never was there any intention on my part to luxuriate in a day of self-indulgent delights, but the techni-color exoticism of Chinatown has a way of transporting… [read more]
